An Uneventful Week

September 22, 2008

So, I wish this blog could have been entitled “Completed Paperwork Sent to Russia”. But, it cannot. We found out this morning that a newly added requirement means that we have to redo a document we thought we completed. In addition to that, we’ll need to have it notarized, apostilled by the state of Ohio and then sent to CWA before it can be official. We were hoping that there would be no changes or additions to the paperwork (“dossier”) sent into CWA. But, as Steve says, it’s better to have a little bit of discomfort now than a lot of pain later. It is so important to have our documents perfectly ready before they are sent to Russia, because we definitely don’t want to be stressed out by incomplete documents when we are there!! So, all that to say… a little disappointing news this morning, but not the worst it could be.

This weekend, we will be traveling to beautiful Detroit, Michigan. Steve used to intern at a church outside of Detroit before we were married. He still says that the year he was there was the best year of his life (pre-marriage of course ☺). One of our good friends, Jill, called us a few weeks ago with a desire to want to help us financially. So, she put together invitations and mailed them out to all of our friends from the church, asking to come and join us in our journey. We’ll have great times of laughter and memories, I’m sure. And we will also have the opportunity to share our story, have some time to worship and pray together. When it is all done, they want to take a “love offering” for us. We are so grateful and we can’t wait to spend the evening with these treasured friends!!

Yesterday, Steve and I went on a walk and we were talking about how we are doing in life. We talked a lot about how we really want to just enjoy each moment that God gives us and not always be looking towards the “next thing”. I don’t want to look back on this year and regret wasting it by being consumed with the wait. I believe God tested me this morning with the news about the incomplete paperwork. My first reaction was to be so upset. I really thought everything was perfect and ready to go. I was so frustrated. But, then, I remember the conversation that Steve and I had just yesterday. Really, what is just 2 more weeks of waiting in the big scheme of things? There is so much to be grateful for TODAY.

Thanks for journeying with us. Through the slow times, the fun times, the waiting times and the moving times.  We are so grateful to have friends like you!

  • We have been notified that 2 of the 3 grant applications have been received and we hope to receive a response in the next month or two.
  • We are in the process of completing our last document needed for our dossier
  • Money contributions have slowed considerably. We continue to have some funds trickle in slowly but surely. Every little bit helps. We are so grateful!!

Prayer Requests:

  • That God would allow us to rest in Him, find peace in Him and enjoy the entire process of bringing home our little “St. Pete”
  • Continued prayer for our little one – that God would be building and molding a special place in their little heart for us
  • Wisdom and compassion for the grant organizations who read and review our application

We’ll update again next Monday. Thanks for your prayers and support! Love, Kate & Steve

Katie, as I was praying for you and Steve and little St Pete this morning, God put on my heart, again, what an amazing journey you guys are on. He also reminded me of the treasure you already have of having so many people a part of this child’s life. When St. Pete gets here, there will be so many people alreay in love with St. Pete. I KNOW God’s plan is perfect for all this, including the timing. He is good ALL the time. I love you guys so much and can’t wait to see you in a few weeks.
